March, 1867 - The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.         

Peas au Sucre
Boil the peas and throw into cold water, then put them in a pan with a little butter, a tablespoonful and a half of broth, one yolk of egg; stir fast, and they are done.

 (BBQ)                   Barbecue Beef Brisket
 
2 tsp. parsley flakes
1 1/2 tsp. celery salt
1 1/2 tsp. onion salt
1 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. savory salt
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. salt liquid smoke
Worcestershire sauce
6 - 7 lbs. beef brisket
 
Combine seasonings, rub into brisket. Place fat side up in roaster. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke. Cover and bake 6 hours at 250F. Remove brisket. Place on cookie sheet and cover with barbecue sauce. Return to oven and bake about 1 hour longer.  Christian Church Cookbook-1979
